In KDE, "suspend computer" does not work if I have an USB HDD connected. I get a
"suspend2disk failed on unloading 'usb_storage'. Trying to recover...".

This is working as designed. Unplug the harddisk before suspend.

Yes, the message could be better but this is unfortunately not that easy to do :-(

due to lots of other activity in the hotplug / mount area, i have postponed this since there might be better more general solutions coming up. I have not forgotten this issue ;-)
