Description Frank Rennemann 2005-08-15 12:57:13 UTC
I tried to install beta1 as guest in vmware 4 on a Windows XP host. #None of the
installation modes worked, all ended with the message "An error occured during
installation".
There is additional text starting at the lower right end of the error message box:
"Seems we are on a running system; activating testmode"
This is where the systems hangs :(

Software: Windows XP Service Pack 2 and VMware Workstation 4.0.5 build-6030
Hardware: Pentium 4 3.066 GHz with Hyperthreading enabled, 512 MB RAM

y2logs? You know the drill...
Comment 2 Frank Rennemann 2005-08-16 16:42:32 UTC
unfortunatelly the virtual system crashes before anything is written to the
virtual disk.
BTW, I tried SUSE Linux 9.2 afterwards and it was also impossible to install
inside VMware 4 on the Windows XP host
Next thing I try is to "upgrade" to VMware 4.5 :)

As long as the red popup "an error occured during installation" is still open,
you should still be able to retrieve the y2logs on console 2:

Comment 4 Frank Rennemann 2005-08-19 11:24:33 UTC
after updating the outdated VMware version on my Windows XP host to Version
4.5.2 build-8848 the problem is solved. Installation worked more or less without
problems
