I tested the latest build with the fix for inst-sys. YaST do see the harddisc 
and partitions again. I selected update, however it does still crash 
afterwards. That would be a beta 2 blocker, if it is a general issue.

but not using your CD, but a current one did help.

sorry, it was not the boot CD, it was the tree. Using full-i386 tree it is 
reproducable again. However, not a blocker for the beta.
