Description Ludwig Nussel 2005-08-19 13:06:48 UTC
AFAIK windows has a fixmbr command which just replaces the mbr with a generic
one (like fdisk /mbr in DOS), in case some other os has overwritten it. It
would be nice if we had a similar simple way to do that in a default
installation/rescue system.

Wouldn't master-boot-code be like this? You could simply do a

dd if=/usr/lib/boot/master-boot-code of=/dev/sda

and should have a working generic mbr again.

If that's all that's needed the wrapper script would be quite simple then :)
