Description Glen Christensen 2005-08-22 15:51:21 UTC
After reboot, I'm taken into the text-based install utility. Its the reboot
during the installation-after filesystems are created and files are installed,
but before the hardware is configured, users are created, etc. I have a
NVidia GForce FX Go5600 video card in my laptop (HP Pavilion zd7000), surely
this is fairly common video hardware? Its detected correctly later during the
hardware configuration phase, so why can't it use the GUI installer?

Did you select minimal installation or did you edit the bootloader
configuration?

Please provide YaST2 logs (whole /var/log/YaST2 directory), see:
http://www.opensuse.org/index.php/Bug_Reporting_FAQ#YaST

The graphics card itself is completely supported by SL 10.0.

I can't reproduce this problem, but I have the same videocard (Insprion 8600)
and it made me problems with 3D. After installing the nVidia-Drivers (7167)
and setting up with sax everything worked fine. But after reboot the graphics
system didn't start. In /var/log/messages I read about unsupported modul by
Novell. Switching back to nv solved the problem. With 2D the card works fine.
Perhaps it's related to this bug? If not, I will recheck (latest) nVidia
drivers with beta3, and then open a bug, if the problem still exists.
Comment 3 Glen Christensen 2005-08-24 19:41:44 UTC
User error. The person for whom I wrote this defect, created the GRUB entry
manually and omitted the vga setting in the kernel parameters. This is not a
defect. Marking s invalid.
