Stefan, this may be something for your team. I think this is not a bug with PCMCIA but SATA. Do you have a SATA CDrom e.g.? Please look at console 4 (while installation is still active) and look what the last insmod-line is. I think it will be something like ata_xii The Laptop has no SATA-Device. The problem happens while booting the System from the Installation-CD Please add 'NOPCMCIA=1' to the boot prompt and try again. .. now it hangs after ... searching for info file... That is not a pcmcia problem. Steffen, i don't know how to proceed. Would you please take this? Andreas, please look at console 3 and 4 for what it is doing last. console 3: insmod /modules/ata_piix.ko console 4: uniform CD_ROM driver rev 2.30 attached scsi generic sg1 at scsi1, channel 0, id0, lun0, type 5 ... but the Laptop has no SCSI .. Ok, some wild guess: a) try (at boot prompt) 'brokenmodules=ata_piix' b) try acpi=off Does a) get you any further? in case of a) no installation Drive is found in case of b) console 3: insmod /modules/ata_piix.ko console 4: uniform CD_ROM driver rev 2.30 attached scsi generic sg1 at scsi1, channel 0, id0, lun0, type 5 To make sure, please start with 'manual=2'. When linuxrc shows the first dialog, switch to console 9. On the shell there run 'modprobe ata_piix'. Does it hang? If not, can you continue the installation? the modprobe command hangs. the installation continues but wasn't able to mount the CD-ROM Thanks. This points to a kernel problem. insmod ata_piix must not hang. Could I please get a sysrq+t and sysrq+p from the hang? (See Using sysrq on http://opensuse.org/index.php/Bug_Reporting_FAQ#Kernel_Bugs; you may need a serial console in case dmesg doesn't show the whole output.) No feedback => closing. (In reply to comment #15) > No feedback => closing. sorry, but i had some problems with my internet connection. Today it works ...... since weeks .. I try first the RC 1 and if the problem happens again i reopen the Ticket Hi All well i have the same problem .. modprobe ata_piix hangs during installation My notebook is acer travelmate 4150 what should be done now ? Does this bug still occur? I assume that this has been fixed already; we didn't get any more reports of this kind of problem. |
