Description Forgotten User --EoyBps8f 2005-08-28 20:16:44 UTC
If one wants to install a wlan-card, most of the time one has to d/l the
firmware via YOU. However, without the wlan-card, one cannot use
YOU, given that there is no possibility to connect via network-cable.

In any case it would be more comfortable, to be able to set up the WLAN-card
without having to d/l anything. As the vendors supply a CD with drivers on
it, one would need a Yast-module that searches for the firmware-file on the CD
and within the archives on it.

If multiple files are found, the user is presented a list and can chose which
file to copy to /lib/firmware.

OK.
Lada, I think you do something similar with TV cards. Let's talk about it when
I'm back.

Hi folks, just installed RC1 and managed to get WLAN working with some
additional handwork. For inexperienced users I would very much suggest to have
the firmware on the CDs and also have YaST tell the user about the need to
install the firmware. At the moment you have to look into /var/log/messages to
get the hint.

Reassigning to the new maintainer of yast2-network.

Closing old LATER+REMIND bugs as WONTFIX - if you still plan to work on it, feel free to reopen and set to ASSIGNED.

In case the report saw repeated reopen comments, it's due to bugzilla timing out on the huge request ;(
