as far as I can see it only reads ~/.xcompmgr. can you confirm that it works when this file is there, but the binary itself is not? otherwise I'd assume that X.org somehow doesn't load one extension or another if xcompmgr is missing. I tested it, works fine here: $ rpm -qa | grep xcomp $ |
