after suspend to disk it comes up again but the monitor only says "out of 
range" switching to a console works.

There is a new config variable in /etc/sysconfig/powersave/sleep
SUSPEND2DISK_SWITCH_VT=""
Some systems/graphic cards (drivers) seem to need it. Try to set it to "yes" and
reopen the bug if it does not work (please assign to seife@suse.de then).
