Attachments: Gimp image ruler units get screwed up
Another one, this time no matter how I'd zoom it in/out, it still got screwed up

Description Daniel Secareanu 2005-08-30 20:41:06 UTC
Gimp/Gnome windows doesn't redraw/refresh properly... I dunno who's exactly
responsible for this... but when doing image resampling or cropping in Gnome,
the ruler gets screwed up, with units all over each other (see attachment).

Gimp image ruler units get screwed up

I'm unable to reproduce this. There was a problem for a while with the
Industrial theme and rulers in sodipodi/inkscape, but that was fixed a while
ago. Moreover, it never demonstrated that problem in the GIMP. I tried the
Ocean Dream theme, to see whether it might have had a similar bug, but without luck.

Can you reproduce the problem with other themes? If not, can you provide more
detailed instructions on how to reproduce the problem?
Comment 3 Daniel Secareanu 2005-08-30 21:45:41 UTC
I tried to reproduce it with other themes, but at this moment it only seems to
screw up with ocean dream. What I was doing was this: Open Gimp, take a
screenshot of the whole desktop (on my 1440x1050 resolution it will open at 67%,
should do the same irespective of the screen resolution - ati rage 2d video card
on a compaq armada e500). Crop a part of the image (I was taking screenshots for
the resolution applet switcher actually - however, crop starting from within the
image and go up to the edge of the image, like from lower left corner up to
extreme upper right corner) - Image -> Crop and then do a zoom to 100% - View ->
Zoom -> 1:1 (100%). At this moment the rules gets screwed up. If I zoom back to
50% or 200%, the rules shows alright. The moment I switch from 50% to 100% it
doesn't redraw.

I can reproduce this on an nvidia 6800 go machine, dell inspiron 9300, as
well... It still happens only with the ocean dream theme... rc1.
Comment 6 Mark Gordon 2006-05-02 22:42:54 UTC
I'm still unable to reproduce this. Tried on an IBM T42p laptop (ATI FireGL Mobility T2) and a Dell XPS with an nVidia GeForce 6800. I'm using something more akin to SL10.1 currently, though. Are you still seeing this? Do you have OpenSUSE 10.1 (currently at RC3) handy?
Comment 7 Daniel Secareanu 2006-06-06 08:22:23 UTC
Unfortunately don't have a laptop with SUSE Linux (and nvidia) at this moment so cannot really check this with 10.1. Installing now an older PC with 10.0, but I doubt this will show up on a motherboard video card... but will check all the same.
Comment 8 Daniel Secareanu 2006-06-06 12:41:23 UTC
Nope... cannot reproduce this on the new system I've just installed... but as far as I remember... the issue was related to laptops, nvidia cards... so need to test on that hardware configuration.

So, this is likely hardware/driver specific and its probably not replicatable without the same setup (and maybe even then the driver has improved). So I'm going to invalidate this bug for now. Daniel, please re-open if you ever manage to reproduce.
