Description Francis Earl 2005-09-01 00:18:27 UTC
When installing SUSE Linux 10.0 b3, I was required to use some packages from all
5 CD's, or simply not install these packages.

Surely this is just bad though... I mean, many praise Ubuntu for being just one
CD, it simply provides ease.

It is insane that you should need 2 or more CD's for SUSE, so maybe someone
should consider perhaps splitting the CD's better so more used things should go
into the first 2 CD's. Maybe something like Debian's popularity-contest can be
used to acheive this intelligently?

This is not really an issue for me, as I will be using FTP install once 10.0 is
released, but this is quite bad for most users imo.

All package of SuSE Linux will never fit onto 1 or 2 CDROMs.
We've already a priority and a popularity lists sorted by
desktop, network, development, ... and even those packages
will not fit onto 1 or 2 CDROMs. You may use the DVD for that.

Beside this: To buy the box of SuSE Linux will support the
work of the developers here around. Only to say that this
will help the people here to get the monthly bucks for
eat, drink, clothes, and living.

For 10.0 we cannot do anything. I'll take the bug for now.
Comment 3 Andreas Jaeger 2006-01-17 12:09:05 UTC
Ubuntu has only one desktop, we have two to support.

I try to go down to three CDs.
Comment 4 Andreas Jaeger 2006-01-20 09:07:14 UTC
Beta1 will be down to three CDs for default KDE or GNOME in English or German.

This is as good as I can get it with all the other requirements we have.
