Description Daniel Bornkessel 2005-09-01 17:15:49 UTC
When starting an installation, the resolution is set to 1028x1024 (or s.th.
similar). Some notebook screens only show 1024x768. The most important buttons
(on the bottom) are not visible. It is not apparend to the user that the image
is cropped --> the user does not know what to do because of missing buttons on
the bottom.
It is not logical that the user has to adjust the resolution in the boot menu
before starting to install ... resolution should be 1024x768 by default.

Please, attach YaST logs
http://www.opensuse.org/index.php/Bug_Reporting_FAQ#YaST
and the hwinfo `hwinfo --gfxcard` output

Thanks

Might be wrong information in hwinfo, but ...
Comment 3 Steffen Winterfeldt 2005-09-09 09:34:23 UTC
It will never choose anything above 1024x768 unless the monitor
explicitly tells a higher resolution.

Run 'hwinfo --monitor --log=xxx' and attach the log.
Comment 4 Daniel Bornkessel 2005-09-14 13:05:30 UTC
Could it be connected to the fact that it is a laptop with a monitor attached?
The monitor can do very high solutions but the laptop screen no resolution
higher than 1024x768. During this installation both devices were activated ...
so YaST probably used the high resolution using the monitor information but only
1024x768 pixels were visible (it was indeed like a virtual resolution but
without the possibility to access the whole screen).

Comment 5 Steffen Winterfeldt 2005-09-14 13:10:53 UTC
Possibly. The BIOS just returns one resolution. No chance to pick lcd and
external monitor apart.
