Description m. bracher 2005-09-02 21:22:42 UTC
Configuring the modem
IBM 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC97 Modem Controller

YaST wants to install smartlink-softmodem (that's correct), but the package is
missing (package source is a opensuse-mirror via http)
I looked also on suse-mirror (SUSE-Linux10.0-Beta4-Extra), but not found
Comment 1 Marian Jancar 2005-09-07 09:41:53 UTC
The package is not completely open source, perhaps it is not included in the
opensuse because of that?
Comment 2 Adrian Schröter 2005-09-07 09:43:52 UTC
yes.

Comment 3 Marian Jancar 2005-09-07 09:59:51 UTC
Ok, then yast on opensuse should not try to install it and could inform the user
that the modem requires a closed source driver to work.
Comment 4 m. bracher 2005-09-08 22:28:08 UTC
When it can't be included in the distribution, it would be nice when it is
downloadable (like non-gpl kernel-modules or wlan-firmware), e.g. from
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/10.0 or
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/10.0/
(I haven't found it there, and the package from suse9.3 seems not to work)
Comment 5 Andreas Jaeger 2005-09-09 06:59:25 UTC
It will be in the nongpl kernel module, we just disabled it for RC1 - and it's
broken on Beta4.
Comment 6 Kevin Ivory 2005-09-13 09:37:40 UTC
this seems a duplicate of bug #106000
Comment 7 Martin Vidner 2006-08-28 11:52:25 UTC
Reassigning to the new maintainer of yast2-network.
