Description Patrick Kirsch 2005-09-06 13:45:24 UTC
because of different motherboards and their partitioning,
hwinfo should create a section 'chrp-model'(similar to the hwinfo
'mac_generation') under special circumstances.
These circumstances are:
if the boards are 'Pegasos2' and 'Momentum, Maple-D' and 'Momentum, Maple-L'
  (see outputs of lsprop, getsysinfo)

model.txt

this is a list of older macs, the string can contain spaces (but that violates
the spec), it contains only one line. Unlike the 'compatible' property which
can be multiline.
Comment 4 Steffen Winterfeldt 2005-09-06 14:12:14 UTC
Please add getsysinfo from a maple machine, too.
Comment 5 Patrick Kirsch 2005-09-06 15:23:01 UTC
well, at this moment, i can not provide this information, because the maple-d
100 board does not boot because of corrupted nvram image. We have to wait for
full documentaion for this board to fix this.
Comment 6 Olaf Hering 2005-09-06 19:44:45 UTC
cant you just unconditionally export /proc/device-tree/model in hwinfo --sys?
Comment 7 Steffen Winterfeldt 2005-09-07 08:52:40 UTC
Sure I can. But who is going to use it?
Comment 8 Olaf Hering 2005-09-07 09:03:24 UTC
/usr/share/YaST2/modules/Arch.ycp will define a board_pegasos and board_maple
once we have the model info. both are chrp.
pegasos needs amiga partition table
maple needs to be mapped to chrp.
Comment 10 Olaf Hering 2006-04-21 12:54:52 UTC
its required for cell.
Comment 11 Matthias Fruehauf 2006-04-24 12:19:36 UTC
Steffen, this one became critical for us (Cell support) meanwhile, can you do it now?
Comment 12 Steffen Winterfeldt 2006-04-24 12:40:59 UTC
I will add nothing until after 10.1 is final.
BTW, This is an 'enhancement', not 'critical'.

Comment 14 Olaf Hering 2006-07-11 22:45:54 UTC
hardly an enhancement...
Comment 15 Steffen Winterfeldt 2006-07-12 08:36:03 UTC
Is this critical as in 'yes, we desperately need it for SP1' or as in
'uh-oh, we're gonna die unless it's in 10.2'?
Comment 16 Olaf Hering 2006-07-12 08:39:38 UTC
we need it by Friday because other stuff depends on it.

hwinfo.ppc-system_type.patch

could have worked this way
Comment 18 Olaf Hering 2006-09-18 17:49:37 UTC
but it was fixed in another way
