Please attach /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Not a critical bug. master@bettertuning.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Priority|P5 - None |P2 - High Version|Beta 3 |RC 1 No feedback at all, but raising priority? Tried again with RC1. Neither VGA nor DVI is working when X-Server starts. Nor in SAX testing the configuration. Amazingly the onboard-Chipset, which was a ATI 9100, is recognized as Asustek RS300 5834. But testing graphical configuration results in a dark screen. I can't copy the files requested now, as I don't know how to transfer them in text mode. Asus Pundit are quite popular - if SUSE would get DVI-out (which is their plus) working, I would change those stations in my internetcafe in Interlaken from Mandriva to SuSe. > I can't copy the files requested now, as I don't know how to transfer them

What do you mean with that?
my last suse experience was 7. Now I can't find my usb stick in text mode, nor do I have internetconnection to upload the requested files to any place. As I don't get X-Server running even after new installation neither with VGA nor DVI I can't help myself. Can you help me? Boot into runlevel 3 and configure your graphics card (unaccelerated) with sax2 -m 0=fbdev -r Of course you should copy /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log first to a safe place. Otherwise you'll send me the config and logfile of the fbdev driver, which would be pretty useless. Thanks, it is working now even with DVI, but only with 16bit color mode (hardware is supposed to support 24bit and does with Mandriva). Why? Anyway I was positively surprised. Thanks. But now I discovered, parallel port is not recognized... new report... (I could even manage saving those 2 files, still needed?) > (I could even manage saving those 2 files, still needed?)
Of course. I want to know, why the radeon driver (the driver with 2D
acceleration) does not work. You're currently using an ugly workaround
called "fbdev" driver. A driver without any 2D acceleration. Usually it isn't
fun to use this driver. And using it in 24bit makes this driver even more
slower.

These are the config and logfiles for the "fbdev" driver. These are useless. See my comment #8. I think it's better not to waste more time on this. I don't see any progresss here. I'm sorry, I could run sax again and put the corresponding X.org-files with fglrx-driver. Does this mean you give up on existing problems just because they do not solve themselves in a short time? This one does surely not only concern me. There is a many pundit-user out there. I'm not interested in config and logfiles for fglrx driver. I need them for the radeon driver. But I doubt that you'll ever manage to attach them. :-( Therefore I closed this bugreport. Created attachment 49430 [details]
after running sax again (without framebuffer-driver-parameter)
this is xorg.conf after running sax2 without your suggested parameters. As I
coudn't choose any driver, I assume it is working with radeon driver here?

after starting x-server with regular radeon driver
an image appears but very disorted in proportion and color. it looks very snowy
and sometimes moving cursor stops in the middle. please don't give up, I help
what I can, I'm not that stupid what you think.
That's fbdev again. Try "sax2 -r -a", afterwards "startx", then kill the Xserver with "Ctrl-Alt-BS" (since display will become blank again). Then attach config and logfile again. sorry for this. So after another half an hour's work (as I have the machine actually running with another linux) I did sax2 -r -a, and startx, resulting in a blank screen again. Created attachment 49480 [details]

Xorg.0.log
Thanks. Please also attach xorg.conf. You've attached the logfile two times. Created attachment 49508 [details]
xorg.conf - the right one
sorry for the confusion, maybe I'm even dumber than you thought. or just
overtired.
Ok. Some changes in xorg.conf are worth a try:
- remove 'Option "DPMS"' line from 'Section "Monitor"'
- call "/usr/sbin/hwinfo --monitor" (no Xserver should be running at this
time, so the best would be to reboot into runlevel 3 before); then put the
"Vert. Sync Range" and "Hor. Sync Range" values you get into
'Section "Monitor"'
- in 'Section "Device"' try the "MonitorLayout" option (see "man radeon"),
something like this might help:
Option "MonitorLayout" "TMDS, NONE" (DVI connector)
Option "MonitorLayout" "CRT, NONE" (VGA connector)
I think you need to experiment with the available values here a bit.
Still no feedback. WONTFIX. I tried out your suggestions. Still I don't get DVI-out to work. What Do I report bugs for if they are closed just because I can't solve them? Maybe you realize that I spent much time contributing - what for?. I would even really like to pay for a linux which supports nowadays Hardware. That's not how it should end. I'm buying windows xp licences for the concerned stations and next time when it comes to linux I choose mandriva again. I didn't get any feedback for my last question. Therefore I closed the bugreport. In many cases this helps to get feedback. David, one additional idea: Try Option "MonitorLayout" "NONE,CRT" and connect the Monitor to VGA after Xserver startup. There is the possibility that on this laptop there is no crossbar after the DACs. That is, it could be that the primary output is not capable of driving the VGA port. David, we still need your feedback. Thanks for not giving up. It's not a laptop in my case but the pundit barebone. I in the meantime did remove SuSE on those machines as it wasn't working fast enough with vesadrivers. I tried to install Opensuse 10 on another machine but I had to give up as the installer comes up with "failed to mount cd-rom". I'm sorry that I do not have the time to support this bugtracing further. In that case we cannot fix this. But I think we're seeing one of these radeon driver regression we already have enough bug reports for. Maybe if someone from the radeon driver developers by chance finnally fixes the radeon mode initialization, you might have a chance that future Xorg releases work again. |
