Description Anas Nashif 2005-09-08 03:44:05 UTC
In second stage of installation I choose to run YOU and installed the nvidia
patch, when yast2 finishes installation and the system comes up I get a blank
screen and the system freezes.

This is a Dell Precision 670 with EMT64 SMP and an Quadro NVS 280 PCI-E/Quadro
FX 330

I tried running Sax2, it also freezes the system.
hwinfo and X log files attached. Let me know if you need other files.

Ok. Output of Xorg logfile stop suddenly. Maybe Andy has an idea ...
Call "switch2nv" for now to use "nv" driver instead.

I don't see anything obviously wrong, but it may be worth checking out the patch
here:

  http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=56150

or going through your SBIOS settings and make sure that support
for the no-exec page protection mechanism isn't disabled.

I hope that helps.
Comment 8 Stefan Dirsch 2005-09-12 17:40:21 UTC
I was not aware of this patch. Unfortunately it's probably already to late to
include it for 10.0-final.
Comment 9 Anas Nashif 2005-09-17 19:17:45 UTC
disabling no-exec in the bios solved the problem
Comment 10 Anas Nashif 2005-09-17 19:18:08 UTC
I mean enabling of course :-)
Comment 11 Stefan Dirsch 2005-09-18 14:45:51 UTC
fixed (applied the patch) for 10.1 and next kernel update of 10.0.
