Description Takashi Iwai 2005-09-08 10:21:13 UTC
dmix socket remains unlinked when different users in a same group access
concurrently.
This is because the file group owner isn't changed properly.
Comment 1 Jaroslav Kysela 2005-09-08 10:49:59 UTC
Should be fixed in the ALSA CVS tree.
Comment 2 Takashi Iwai 2005-09-08 11:02:21 UTC
This bug entry is just for submitting the fixed package to rc2 :)
Comment 3 Takashi Iwai 2005-09-08 18:59:55 UTC
Fixed on rc2.
Comment 4 Takashi Iwai 2005-09-12 17:23:19 UTC
This leads to an error if a user doesn't belong to the given ipc_group.

The fix is simply to ignore the return value of chwon().
Comment 5 Takashi Iwai 2005-09-12 19:22:45 UTC
Updated the attributes. This is a blocker since the sound basically doesn't
work without the fix.

The fixed package is submitted to STABLE now.
Comment 6 Andreas Jaeger 2005-09-13 05:04:24 UTC
So, can we close this now?
Comment 7 Takashi Iwai 2005-09-13 09:37:56 UTC
Yes, the package was checked in -> FIXED.

I am running RC2 and it is not fixed here. Also, I tested KDE and it does have
sound, so it appears to be only GNOME that is missing the sound.
Comment 11 Takashi Iwai 2005-09-13 13:49:00 UTC
The comment #3 is about the bug described in the original bug report.
The bug appearing on rc2 is the side effect by this fix, and fixed on rc3.

Comment 13 Bryan Perry 2005-09-13 17:48:17 UTC
So, is there any way to get this working now in RC2 or do we all just have to
wait until RC3? I would like to get this fixed in my installations to get on
with some other tests that need sound.
Comment 14 Takashi Iwai 2005-09-13 17:51:55 UTC
You can try the fixed alsa package on mbuild bari-tiwai-6.

Don't forget to add --force option to rpm since rpm -U or -F wouldn't work for
the package with the same version and release numbers.
Comment 15 Bryan Perry 2005-09-13 17:54:40 UTC
Not being a developer, can you give me any other info on attaching to mbuild? Is
it an internal server? http? ftp? Thanks, I'd love to give it a shot.
Comment 16 Takashi Iwai 2005-09-13 18:02:33 UTC
I put it on ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/alsa/SL10.0rc2-fix.
Wait for a while until it's sync'd.
