Description Leah Cunningham 2005-09-09 19:56:07 UTC
I have tried to start a network installation via both http and nfs. In each
case, the installer has loaded the root.ppc file and then not really done
anything else. In the case of http, it gets to 100%, and then just sits there.
I was able to install with beta4 over http. The only difference was that I was
on a somewhat faster network connection there than I am here. I do not see any
obvious errors in the kernel or installer messages.

same reproduced on i386. After downloading image throught http it fails with
following error:

Loading image "/pub/...../boot/root"
/download/image0: unknown fs type
mount: /download/image0 no such device

Steffen: Have you ever seen this error message? What do you think it could be,
please?
Comment 4 Steffen Winterfeldt 2005-09-12 10:16:36 UTC
It means the downloaded data are broken. Very probably there is a defect
on the server side.
Comment 5 Steffen Winterfeldt 2005-09-12 10:17:09 UTC
Leah, please check that your installation data are ok.
Comment 6 Leah Cunningham 2005-09-15 22:11:16 UTC
It is, I use the same images to burn CDs and do an installation from CD. I am
unclear as to how to get a y2log from this as yast never fully starts. Ideas?

I saw something like this with beta 4 once or twice, but assumed it was server
problems then too, and after trying a few times was able to do the installation.
it is just odd that it downloads the entire image and then hangs like this. I
do not get any additional errors like were mentioned in comment 1.
Comment 7 Steffen Winterfeldt 2005-09-16 09:42:47 UTC
yast is not involved here.

It downloads the image and then fails to mount it. The only reason
I can think of would be that the data didn't arrive correctly.

Does it work via ftp or nfs?
Comment 8 Leah Cunningham 2005-09-16 22:19:23 UTC
It failed via NFS as well. Maybe it was just me, but is seemed really strange
considering I saw it a few times intermittently w/the other beta as well.
