Eclipse 3.1 from www.eclipse.com runs when unpacked.  However Eclipse from the
10.0 RC1 CDs have the problem.

This bug is really old ;)
I'm closing it for now because of two reasons: This seems to be reported for SUSE Linux 9.3 (but the first supported version in bugzilla is 10.0) and if there still is a problem with a decent version of SL, this report can be reopened. Please notice that you should always use the packages for the version they are created for.
