The system is a PIII @650MHz, SCSI 80 GB HDD, 1024MB SDRAM, ONstream tape drive being used as a smaba server. RC1 is outdated by now. Please test this with RC4 again. If the problem resides, please offer more information about your hardware (hwinfo) and provide about 500 lines of your syslog. This is not likely a problem with the power-management, or does this appear exactly when your system tries to go into suspend? With about 2-3 hours you mean that this problem occours randomly? Also: does ist _always_ happen? Try to be a bit more verbose, makes locating the problem easier. Thanks. This is not a bug for the Usability & Design Team. This is a real software bug or reflects problems with some hardware devices. Who will take care of this? Need help by the screening team. Sorrey, will take some time before RC4 will be final. So the guess is the powermanagement... but the safemode uses some more options. Thomas: What do you think and what do you need exactly for debugging? RC1 is the latest public available! This could be everything. Could you please attach dmesg and acpidmp output. Is cpufreq active on this machine (/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq directory does exist)? If yes, you can disable it by setting (first variable): CPUFREQD_MODULE="off" in /etc/sysconfig/powersave/cpufreq and see whether the system runs stable now. I wonder why it appears between USB initialisation ..., strange.
But it could be related to the CDROM errors in the end (You don't get this "sr0:
CDROM not ready" messages if you boot pci=noacpi?) and also to the random freeze.
acpidmp is in the pmtools package (must be invoked as root).
Also enable sys-req:
"echo 1 >/proc/sys/kernel/sysrq" and replace ENABLE_SYSRQ="no" with
ENABLE_SYSRQ="yes" in /etc/sysconfig/sysctl
If the machine freezes you can then hit the SysReq button (normally near the
scroll button) together with T (SysReq-T). Hopefully you then get a backtrace of
the last invoked kernel functions. If it works could you make a picture of the
screen or write down the last invoked functions, please.

To try it out you could do: echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq <ALT-Druck><h> and have a look at the end of /var/log/messages. There you should now see an overview of all available sysreq keys.
