Description Olaf Hering 2005-09-19 12:20:57 UTC
most Macs and also our pegaos board can not play audio cds due to the lack of a
cable from the CD drive to the sound card.

kscd can probably still not read the CD and play it, according to the offered
config options.
xmms pretends to be able to read the CD directly, but there is appearently no
way to acually play /dev/cdrom directly.
Comment 1 Takashi Iwai 2005-09-19 13:01:14 UTC
xmms and bmp have the special desktop files to do this, namely, run like
   xmms /media/xmms_audio_cd
Comment 2 Olaf Hering 2005-09-22 11:48:23 UTC
yes, that worked on pegasos.
how can we get rid of kscd and use 'xmms /media/xmms_audio_cd' instead, per
default, without any userinteraction (since it is known that kscd can not work)?
Comment 3 Takashi Iwai 2005-09-23 08:07:34 UTC
xmms+CD has already a desktop menu, too, but seems lacking X-SuSE-CD category.
It appears in Player section.
Comment 4 Olaf Hering 2005-09-23 08:41:20 UTC
Thats now what I'm talking about.
Inserting an audio CD will suggest to run kscd even if it is damn know that kscd
can not work.
Comment 5 Stanislav Brabec 2006-02-24 12:34:06 UTC
X-SuSE-CD will be added. it has only influence to the location in the menu.

Fixing kscd or changing the default in KDE on PowerPC is a task for kde-maintainers (maybe already done).

GNOME uses banshee as default, so it's probably not affected.
Comment 6 Stephan Kulow 2006-02-28 06:50:40 UTC
with 10.1 there are several options and one of them is kaffeine and that one should work. Please check
Comment 7 Olaf Hering 2006-04-20 13:26:29 UTC
yes, kaffeine is offered in a popup.
but the audio cd is not stared directly, I have to select 'AudioCD' again as playlist source in kaffeine.
it should start playing right away. I guess kscd starts playing right away too?
Comment 8 Stephan Kulow 2006-05-06 15:03:56 UTC
we'll drop kscd for 10.2
Comment 9 Stephan Kulow 2006-09-13 08:11:27 UTC
Lukas, please move kscd from kdemultimedia3-CD to -extra and add Provides as applying. That should drop it from the default for new installations.
Comment 10 Lukas Tinkl 2006-09-13 09:03:34 UTC
Yup will do; we might as well use amarok (instead of xmms) for playing the AudioCDs in KDE, it works fine using the xine engine

amarok --cdplay <device>
Comment 11 Lukas Tinkl 2006-09-20 12:43:51 UTC
kscd moved to -extra, -extra now depends on -CD
