These laptops also have an automatic brightness sensor for the lcd. I have also seen my mystery dialog pop up and display "Brightness" and a percentage. I'm using the KDE interface. Same problem as with bug 114960. Sounds as though this is being addressed for RC2. My /var/log/messages gets the same messages about the error reading LCD status. Looks like the problem is with kdeutils3 and the KMILO plugin. What would you suggest for a workaround until RC2? I will try removing the kdeutils-laptop package. Ok, makes sense.
