ZDI-23-708

This vulnerability allows local attackers to escalate privileges on affected
installations of Linux Kernel. An attacker must first obtain the ability to
execute high-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this
vulnerability.

The specific flaw exists within the handling of vmw_buffer_object objects. The
issue results from the lack of validating the existence of an object prior to
performing further free operations on the object. An attacker can leverage this
vulnerability to escalate privileges and execute code in the context of the
kernel.

This is same fix as in bug 1211593 but reasoning applies to different objects -- and that results in different score? (I'm not an vmwgfx expert.)

Please ignore my previous message, it seems that the fixing commit mentioned in comment 1 is actually fixing both CVEs.

We should be fine. The patch has been backported to v6.2 and later under the git hash a950b989ea29ab3b38ea7f6e3d2540700a3c54e8.
