I've seen this being discussed briefly in Matrix/Telegram (Telegram link: https://t.me/openSUSE_Aeon/31932) but can't find any "this is how we'll do it", so hence this report.

Summary
Packages fprintd and fprintd-pam are "missing" in a default install of Aeon.

Why would we include it?
- Since we install all kernel firmware packages the fingerprint readers are there and ready to be used. The only thing missing is the two above packages. This give the option Fingerprint Login under Settings > User.
- It improves the user friendliness which allows the user to enroll fingerprints out of the box without adding extra packages.

Why wouldn't we include it?
- Not all systems have fingerprint readers
- Users don't want to use biometric auth even if it's available

Another reflection - If we include fprintd, one could argue to also include support for smart cards, and maybe even support YubiKeys out of the box. I'm not proposing we do this, just that someone might reference this if implemented.

@dopice

Most of laptops include a fingerprint reader now, from my user point of view, it's weird to not permit us to uses it. It's like the Camera, it's not always required, but Aeon include the necessary packages to support it out of the box.

Smart card & Yubikeys are rarely sell with the laptop/computer, it's an important distinction I think.

If the final decision is to not add fprintd packages, may be a Guide documentation could be added to explain how to install them manually, so this will works correctly like most of the others GNU/Linux distributions?

I want to support as fingerprint readers, card readers, and yubikeys out of the box

When it comes to YubiKeys, do we only support using them out of the box or do we also want to include the configuration utility? More exactly yubikey-manager (command line) and yubikey-manager-qt (gui)?
