Description John Westervelt 2023-07-18 04:38:55 UTC
Since bios update approximately July 11, 2023, problems with Dell Precision desktop. 11th gen I7 cpu, AMD gpu, 16mg ram.

When attempting to do a fresh install of Aeon (or Tumbleweed) almost immediately a short message comes up before the boot menu,

"Verifying sbin SBAT data failed: Security Violation. Something has gone seriously wrong."

Then the whole computer quickly shuts all power off.

The problem is unchanged through kernel 6.4.3.

To be sure, I did fresh install of Debian 12, Ubuntu, and Fedora 38. All of them boot normally.

This has been extensively discussed as bug 1209985

Your simplest solution will be to disable secure-boot in your BIOS until Tumbleweed gets a newer shim.
