Description Stanislav Brabec 2005-10-07 19:26:59 UTC
How to repeat:

1) Set theme with bright background.
2) Set gnome-screensaver to blank.
3) Wait.

Screen has default background of the theme (i. e. bright), which is not expected
behavior of screen saver "blank" mode.

Expected behavior is being black.
Comment 1 Mark Gordon 2005-10-07 19:54:22 UTC
 a. OE. blank, blonc, blaunc, blaunche, fr. F.
blanc, fem. blanche, fr. OHG. blanch shining, bright, white,
   G. blank; akin to E. blink, cf. also AS. blanc white. ?98.
See Blink, and cf. 1st Blanch.
   1913 Webster

From that, I'd expect that "blank" would make the screen white, not black.
Screensavers do sometimes make the screen black, but I'm not sure "blank" is the
word I'd use to describe that behavior.
Comment 2 Ben Kahn 2005-10-07 20:49:30 UTC
Haha. In this case, I believe blank as in lack. Or lack of energy being using
by the screen -- blank.
Comment 3 JP Rosevear 2006-01-24 22:09:02 UTC
Is this still happening Stanislav? What theme should I try.
Comment 4 Stanislav Brabec 2006-01-25 11:33:43 UTC
I don't have latest version installed yet, but with version 0.0.20 it occurs for example with:
Gtk theme: bluebubble, Bumblebee (not in SuSE) (and probably all pixmap bg themes)
Screensaver themes: Blank screen, Pictures folder
Comment 5 Stanislav Brabec 2006-01-25 21:32:04 UTC
Yes, gnome-screensaver 0.0.25 still has this bug.

Additionally it displays many times:

(gnome-screensaver:32449): libgnomevfs-WARNING **: Internal error: the configuration system was not initialized. Did you call _gnome_vfs_configuration_init?

(gnome-screensaver:32449): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_hash_table_lookup: assertion `hash_table != NULL' failed
Comment 6 Larry Ewing 2006-03-28 00:28:24 UTC
I think this is a bug in the pixmap theme is seems to draw the theme background n Gtk.Windows regardless of how the style has been declared.
Comment 7 JP Rosevear 2007-02-09 21:09:09 UTC
Stanislav, still valid in 10.2? What theme are you using?
Comment 8 Stanislav Brabec 2007-02-14 12:50:22 UTC
I am trying it in updated 10.3 and I am not sure.

While clicking to "Preview" "Blank screen", this but occurs, while activating "Blank screen", it is black.

Pictures folder does not work in my 10.3 snapshot correctly.

Testing with gtk theme: Bumblebee (third party theme based on pixmap engine)

Additionally I found, that pressing "Help" does ugly things:
which: no khelpcenter in (/home/sbrabec/.local/bin:/home/sbrabec/.local/bin:/home/sbrabec/.local/bin:/home/sbrabec/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/bin:/usr/games:/opt/kde3/bin:/usr/lib64/jvm/jre/bin:/usr/lib/mit/bin:/usr/lib/mit/sbin:/opt/gnome/bin:/usr/lib/qt3/bin:/usr/lib/gnome-screensaver/gnome-screensaver:/usr/lib64/xscreensaver)

Comment 9 Mark Gordon 2007-11-02 16:51:19 UTC
I'm seeing this with a "Blank" screen when using the SphereCrystal theme (pale-background pixmap theme which we ship by default), so it's still valid.

The upstream bug is http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344936

It's nominally FIXED upstream, but considering that it's not working in code where it's supposedly fixed, I'm going to reopen the upstream bug.

Closing old LATER+REMIND bugs as WONTFIX - if you still plan to work on it, feel free to reopen and set to ASSIGNED.

In case the report saw repeated reopen comments, it's due to bugzilla timing out on the huge request ;(
Comment 14 JP Rosevear 2008-08-14 20:18:50 UTC
Updating resolution to UPSTREAM.
