Hello Support

Well since upgrade to snapshot 20231110 or 20231113 and the switch to Kernel 6.6.1.1-default; I get stuck at system loading with message:

Loading Linux 6.6.1-1-default
Loading initial ramdisk
-
it get get stuck there and nothing else.
The easy way i've found to it is to boot previous kernel which works without problem but also I've come to find another way to it by powering OFF my laptop when it get stuck then power ON again; I 've to do this 3 times successively before it can pass the blocking part and load the system no problem

I've wait for a kernel or module update but because it seem not around and maybe people other than me may experience same I decided to report this, below my laptop config:

Static hostname: smartbox

Could you try to boot with "nomodeset" boot option? This will disable the native graphics. If the system boots fine with this, it implies a graphics driver problem.

In anyway, please give the output of hwinfo from the previous working (6.5.x) kernel.

Sure Sir!
Here's link to hwinfo from old kernel 6.5.9-1-default
https://paste.opensuse.org/pastes/a8d912cd0ddb

I have to check the nomodeset thing then update here, my graphic is intel, but give me minutes and i'll try that then revert here

The nomodeset thing worked and the system loaded fine and straight it naturally does but resolution is crap so i have to reboot again to old kernel and running that for the moment

BTW ... I also experience small lags on the Ui, not freezing, no glitching but lagging a bit when I play videos or certain audios and do my work at the same time, seem it is also drivers related.
How can I check and track so I can log it ?

Could you upload as Bugzilla attachment, too?

There is at least one known i915 regression, and it's been handled in bsc#1217282.

A test kernel with the fix patch backport is found in OBS home:tiwai:bsc1217282 repo:
  http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/tiwai:/bsc1217282/standard/

If it's the same problem, this test kernel should work. Please give it a try.

Okay, well i'd do it if it was not my production laptop but now I just can't bt thank you for that proposition, i'll wait for next official kernel with that fix
For now it works quite good, so no need for me to rush into stuffs I may no succeed doing

Just updated to snapshot 20231122 coming with kernel 6.6.2-1-default and things seem to work great, maybe i've to test with couple of reboot to see if it still does that in some other conditions but as of what I've seen now, it is working great
Comment 10 Takashi Iwai 2023-11-23 06:59:37 UTC
OK, then let's close.
