Description Peter Sütterlin 2024-01-14 17:02:57 UTC
lux:E% finger pit
finger: /var/run/utmp: No such file or directory

Not that I assume anyone still uses it(*), but as it is an official TW package (finger-1.3-169.5.x86_64) that should probably be fixed, or the package removed?

(*) nor do I - finger came up during a "history-discussion" and I merely tried it to find out if it still exists.... ;^>

The successor of "finger" is "pinky", and that tool works.

But I agree, the sources for finger are untouched since about 17 years, I don't want to know how many bugs/problems are there in the code and the finger protocol shouldn't be used anymore for security reasons, too.

I vote for dropping "finger", at least from Factory.

Only installation-images buildrequire it. Steffen will remove it.

I mean: Steffen will remove the requirement (thanks!). I will drop finger then.
Comment 5 Petr Gajdos 2024-01-16 09:02:11 UTC
installation-images without finger requirement are in Factory yet.
