First, try to login on runlevel 3 without any graphic interface to eliminate complex layers. Then check /proc/asound/cards whether the driver appears there. If no valid entry is found, the driver initialization failed. This happens if the BIOS is broken (often seen on many nvidia mobos). No reaction on this bug for a long time. Closing as CANTFIX. |
Chipset: nVIDIA nForce3 250 Gb, 8-Channel C-Media Audio. * Single chip C-Media CMI8768. SUSE identified an installed CMI8738 with driver snd-cmipci. Everything seams to be ok but no sound. amixer and alsamixer tells me that PCM and Synth are muted and they can not be unmuted. If I try to start Control Center -> Soundsystem in KDE i get the error message that "Unable to start the sound server to retrieve possible sound I/O methods. Only automatic detection will be available." I've tried alsaconfig and it says that everytging it's ok but the test sound can not be heard. My soundcard works in Windows XP (dualboot), Have installed SUSE again but the problem remains hwinfo: 34: PCI 208.0: 0401 Multimedia audio controller [Created at pci.277] UDI: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_13f6_111 Unique ID: oxTw.leFtcOMtGx0 Parent ID: vuMS.fnpiWG08KJ2 SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0e.0/0000:02:08.0 SysFS BusID: 0000:02:08.0 Hardware Class: sound Model: "C-Media Electronics CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device" Vendor: pci 0x13f6 "C-Media Electronics Inc" Device: pci 0x0111 "CM8738" SubVendor: pci 0x13f6 "C-Media Electronics Inc" SubDevice: pci 0x0111 "CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device" Revision: 0x10 Driver: "C-Media PCI" I/O Ports: 0xc100-0xc1ff (rw) IRQ: 209 (no events) Module Alias: "pci:v000013F6d00000111sv000013F6sd00000111bc04sc01i00" Driver Info #0: Driver Status: cmpci is not active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe cmpci" Driver Info #1: Driver Status: snd_cmipci is active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe snd_cmipci" Config Status: cfg=yes, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Attached to: #26 (PCI bridge)
