Description Adam Goldman 2024-02-14 16:20:04 UTC
When a multiple port adapter has one port connected and one not connected running ibv_devinfo with a similar message:

eno2 speed is unknown, defaulting to 1000

This also can be duplicated running MPI jobs that harvest NIC info at job startup.

Here is a kprobe for __ethtool_get_link_ksettings:

r_ethtool_get_link_ksettings: (ib_get_eth_speed+0x70/0x190 [ib_core] <- __ethtool_get_link_ksettings) ret=0x0

Based on the return value of 0, it appears that this upstream commit fixes the issue:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/drivers/infiniband/core/verbs.c?id=cb06b6b3f6cbc56c534587db2aac3e0958a4a314

Since this can also happen with sysfs access, this could be considered a potential DOS exposure.
