Description artem ivanov 2024-03-31 11:27:48 UTC
After upgrading, my fans eventually stops working anymore on my rx580 from china.
After I saw it, i tested on a new arch linux and old build of tumbleweed.
Its works normally only on old build.
Manual mode don't change anything at all.
Setting up kernel option on starting acpi=off too.
Any software, what may mess with fans, removed, and nothing changed.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start PC
2.Wait until 85+ C
3.Check temp

Actual Results:
Cooling fans don't activate.

Expected Results:
Cooling fans should keep the CPU temperature at around 20-40C

Exactly which version was your good-working kernel? If it's a regression, we need to narrow down the range.

Please give the dmesg outputs from both good and bad-working kernels, as well as hwinfo outputs from both.

Unfortunately, I cannot provide you with the kernel version, because now the PC does not load the GUI and does not run the cooler on the video card.
I tried to run old versions up to ubuntu 20.04 (it loads completely, but does not run coolers, also in the drm logs it cannot initialize the SRAT table)
I will roll back further, let's see what the problem is.

UPD: ubuntu 19 - the behavior has not changed, 21 - same.

Retrieved a kernel version with my old laptop.
6.7.7-1-default - good kernel(cant confirm)
Bad kernel:
systemctl: https://pastebin.com/yBXRBRDp
dmesg: https://pastebin.com/5MiGXxiY

Any additional info?
Comment 6 Takashi Iwai 2024-04-21 06:41:40 UTC
Don't change the bugzilla priority. It's only for developer side.

Could you confirm whether the kernel in OBS home:tiwai:kernel:6.7 works for you?
If yes, please get the dmesg output from the working and non-working kernels, and attach to Bugzilla. Also, the output of hwinfo from both kernels, too.

In compilation process:
LD [M] fs/xfs/xfs.o
LD [M] fs/bcachefs/bcachefs.o
make[1]: *** [/usr/src/linux-6.7.9-1.gc6dad0c/Makefile:1928: .] Error 2
I don't know how to fix this issue, so i cant build core

Minor problem solved.
I had to use a crutch, replace it in the config with CONFIG_SYSTEM_TRUSTED_KEYS="".
