Description Olivier Belleux 2024-05-18 18:21:14 UTC
Today Nate Graham announced in his blog post https://pointieststick.com/2024/05/17/this-week-in-kde-all-about-those-apps/ that Dolphin will benefit from an improved interface for root actions with kio_admin from KDE Gear 24.08 onwards.

This means you will no longer need an entry to launch Dolphin as root (/usr/share/applications/org.kde.dolphinsu.desktop).

Furthermore, this solution is a disadvantage in terms of security.
Just like the Root account, which most distributions have done away with.

The security team refused to whitelist kio-admin after reviewing the security-related code.

I don't see many changes in the kio-admin code that would justify asking for a new review (see boo#1205607)

To add to that: It also won't land in Leap 15.x anyway
