Description Martin Jambor 2024-06-03 16:05:16 UTC
GCC 14 newly by default treats as errors a number of situations which
before were only warnings. For more information see
https://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-14/porting_to.html and meta bug #1220571.

Because of this, package metamail fails to compile. This can be seen online
at:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/live_build_log/openSUSE:Factory:Staging:Gcc7/metamail/standard/x86_64

It can be reproduced locally with command: osc build --clean
--alternative-project home:rguenther:nextgcc

Given the age of the code-base, I believe this should be dealt with
compiler options, either -permissive or a -std=gnu89 (together with
-Wno-error=return-type).

The (first) error (that halts the build) is:

[ 11s] codes.c: In function ‘output64chunk’:
[ 11s] codes.c:103:1: error: type of ‘c1’ defaults to ‘int’ [-Wimplicit-int]
[ 11s] 103 | output64chunk(c1, c2, c3, pads, outfile)
[ 11s] | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~
[ 11s] codes.c:103:1: error: type of ‘c2’ defaults to ‘int’ [-Wimplicit-int]
[ 11s] codes.c:103:1: error: type of ‘c3’ defaults to ‘int’ [-Wimplicit-int]
[ 11s] codes.c:103:1: error: type of ‘pads’ defaults to ‘int’
[-Wimplicit-int]

Which I proposed in https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/1181483
