I don't think it's a good idea to have a fixed list of FTP servers built-in. The listed servers could easily get overloaded if users don't search for a suitable mirror. And FTP servers change all the time, it would be impossible to keep the list up to date... The long URL is entered just once anyway. Please, attach y2log (see http://www.opensuse.org/Bug_Reporting_FAQ#YaST) to debug the problem. But IMO the server was overloaded. Adrian, this is more or less feedback about the opensuse project. A server list has been requested in bug 119813, too. I'm all for it as long as a) there is an official server list b) someone opens a separate bug for this Maybe I've an Idea: You can download the serverlist at before you begin to install (So you have an dynamic list - just a few bytes). Or is it maybe to slow? Hello The problems with FTP installs is quite annoying. Even if you have a fast and stable FTP there will like be some connection problems. So you can't just leave a computer on installing over a FTP but have to watch it and click "Ok" once in a while to retry a failed download. The same is true if you later add a FTP as a source in yast. It would be much better if yast could automatically retry 5-10 times before prompting the user. Should I open another bug about that btw, since this one is about multiple problems? With download.opensuse.org we have all we need, IMO. Please check out http://en.opensuse.org/Build_Service/Redirector for details. |
