Indeed - we'd certainly like to see this make its way into 10.1 so that it makes SLES 10. We can work with Tomcat 5, but the improvements in 5.5 would be most welcome. Sorry, 10.1 and SLES10 is already freezed. We ship Geronimo in an extra tree which includes tomcat 5.5.9 if that helps you. I understand the need, but due to a tight time plan it was not possible to include it, sorry. Please upgrade to 5.5.17, it's the current production release (and includes a lot of enhancements wrt clustering, amongst others). Any chance of getting this in before 10.2 feature freeze? Hi. Tomcat 5.5 was not finished on time. It will however be provided via the build service once the package is finished. Sonja: I think it makes sense assigning the bug to you so you can close it once it is available in the build service? Regards, Daniel yep, will do. Will 5.5 be available in 10.2? It was not on the beta1 DVD at all, and the factory version appears to be 5.0.30. This really needs to be upgraded to 5.5; I would hate to have to install it manually again like we had to on our SUSE 10.1 servers. Sorry, but what do you mean by "Tomcat 5.5 was not finished on time?" I opened this bug more than one year ago, more than half a year before SuSE 10.1 was released. And now you can't get it into 10.2? Sorry, but what have you been doing during the last year? Are you aware that Tomcat 5.5 is now more than two years old? I wonder if it will be included in any SuSE release ever before Tomcat 6.x becomes stable. Hi. I built tomat55 in the build service. Right now, it's not well tested and the location will change. Once built (which will take long, as a lot of packages have to be built due to an update on the build service), the packages will be available at: http://software.opensuse.org/download/home:/dbornkessel/SUSE_Factory/repodata/ They will be moved next week to something like http://software.opensuse.org/download/Java:/tomcat55/SUSE_Factory/repodata/ ... I will update the location here. Sonja: I will assign this bug back to me. Unfortunately during the 13months of building 5.5 it is no longer the latest version, 6.0 has been released. Thanks Daniel. Yes, 6.0 is the latest stable, but I think 99% are still using 5.5 (or even 5.0). Personally, I would say the top priority atm is 5.5. Having 6.0 would be great too, but I think that can wait a few weeks (but not too long, please ;)) Again, thanks for your work. 6.0 isn't stable. It's listed as being "alpha", ie. pre-beta. http://tomcat.apache.org/download-60.cgi lists the latest version being 6.0.1-alpha. http://tomcat.apache.org/whichversion.html doesn't even mention a 6.x existing. So 5.5 is the correct version to be shipping in new distributions. Thanks to the SuSE / Novell people for doing the work on this one. Will be good the day SLES 11 ships with JDK 1.5 and Tomcat 5.5. Java and Tomcat support is the main reason we moved from Red Hat to SLES 9 two and a bit years ago. ;-) submitted 5.5 to autobuild. still some build system related problems, but it will definitely be there. Meanwhile, please use: http://software.opensuse.org/download/Java:/addon/ for tomcat55 and http://software.opensuse.org/download/Java:/addon:/test for tomcat6 closing bug as resolved, regards, Daniel |
