In the Control Center sound settings, I set "No sound" for login and logout. I'm still getting the sounds.

gnome-session plays the default system login if the user does not have a customization. The problem was that gnome-session was not differentiating between a non-existent setting (no customization) and a empty setting (the “no sound” customization).

It does now.
