Hi,
my "bug report" is more a feedback than a bug but since it looks o me that there is no space for feedback other then bugs (I sended the same "support request to many other "novell places" and all of them came back) here am I.
I have just installed suse 10 on a couple of PC and I have found some
EXTREMELY bad changes with respect to the older versions (9.3 and precursors).

Most of them appear right away in the installation.

1) In the installation before one was able to choose the "language" of the
system AND separately the "keyboard layout".
Now the choice of the keyboard layout has disappeared i.e. it assumes that
the keyboard layout is the same as the one of the language of the system: WRONG!
I live in Germany, if you buy a laptop it has 99% of the case a German keyboard,
but I always install the system with US as language! i.e. I have a keyboard
mismatch overall the installation procedure!!!

2) If I change the network configuration from DHCP to static the checks
"change host name via DHCP" and "change name server via DHCP" stay clicked.
If you know what you are doing ... no problem if you are a newby ....
you are at least puzzled

3) The sound configuration "applett" into Yast has become very poor (no volume
or other settings possible!)

4) in the installation VERY VERY serious:
you can not check the graphic card configuration before applying it if you do
realize that you have to use s trick.
I explain: before there was in the installation procedure the recognition of
the graphic card. Then you were able to click on the graphic card and
the sax2 module was popping up. There you could have set what you wanted (or
accepted what the installation procedure was suggesting you) but you were able
right away to test the X configuration before applying it!
Now there is no way to get the sax2 test module at that stage!
You have to realize that in the last page of the installation before clicking
"finish" there is a nice box to check if you want to run yast and have
the possibility to check your graphic card configuration before blindly
accept it and have a black screen (and if you are not an expert you do
not really have an idea what to do then!)

5) graphic card configuration VERY VERY serious:
in the graphic card configuration until 9.3 you were able to edit and
change EVERYTHING. I mean suppose the installation procedure recognize the
graphic card but not the monitor. You are still able to click on the
monitor and configure in another way the monitor, but there is no
way whatsoever to change the graphic card config.
Suppose that the driver of the "recognized card" does not work (what has
happened to me!). I knew from suse 9.3 that by using another "dummy vesa"
driver the machine was working. There is no way (apart by editing the
xorg.conf file ... ) to change with Yast the configuration of the graphic card.
And what about if I have a computer plugged on a high resolution screen and
then I have to plug in in a low config screen? can I change the max
resolution of the monitor if the monitor was recognized by the installation?

I do hope you take into account those comments.
Thanks a lot
Best regards,
 catia lavalle

Hello!

Bugzilla is used for reporting (actual) bugs and proposed enhancements on existing (here: packages shipped with the distro) software. It is important that one report only contains one problem -- and if you're proposing an enhancement: that it is all about the same software-component (because these reports are getting reassigned to usually ONE person).

So please split up this report and select the right component (severity: Enhancement) for each topic you want to adress. And leave out the vage parts (e.g. sth. ``got poor''). A feature-request should always be formulated well and there should be a valid reason why this is required.

Some words to your report:

1) Keyboard-Layout and langauge can still be configured seperately.
2) Works also for me.
3) Can also be changed (use the expert configuration at the configuration page in YaST), the X server can also be tested right away.
5) Same thing: You can choose a lower resolution.
