Please be more verbose. What do you mean with `the rpms do not show up'? Describe what you did exactly and where the problem itself is located (e.g. within the packager of YaST2...). unfortunaly it is realy strange indeed. i noticed the problem when installing java-1_4_2-sun (simply yast2 -> install software) search "java" look at the list then i noticed the sun stuff is missing also searching sun turn up no match. i have installed the stuff by hand without problem. i would not have noticed it if i had not the same problem with the mysql-devel that did not show up when i searched "devel" (some time earlier). It IS wired. i can only say that both boxes were installed CD only. The problem was clearly not there on the DVD, NFS based installations i did. Which version of SUSE Linux do you use exactly? You can paste the output of `cat /etc/SUSE-release' here (you must be root to be able to read the file). cat /etc/SuSE-release SUSE LINUX 10.0 (i586) OSS VERSION = 10.0 in case: yast2-2.12.26-2 yast should be the actual version You're using the OSS-version of SUSE Linux, which does not contain non-GPL-programs. These missing packages can be downloaded via FTP nontheless. For more information visit http://www.opensuse.org Before I close this: > i have installed the stuff by hand without problem. What installation source did you use here? And the DVD you used, is this the pressed (box)-version or the (downloaded) OSS-version? The installation was made as OSS, that much is clear. pressed version, installed via CD not personaly by me but i did the install of sun java. There are some packages missing on the CD version due to the lack of space. Mysq-devel is one of these packages. So this is no bug. YaST does not show packages which are not on at least one of the installation media. Obviously you've installed the OSS version in the first time and updated it later with the box-version. Be sure you add all required installation media (Box-CD != OSS-CD here). I admit this might be a bit confusing at the beginning, but this is all about license and copyright problems. No way, i ask the user. he used the pressed CD's to install (why should he change). It does not explain why i was not able to SEE the sun java stuff with yast2 at all. they were clearly on the disk since i used it to install from there. NTL it is not THAT important and it is hard to notice but perhaps pointing to on other problem. (does yast2 cache ?) You should never report bugs for other persons. And please, consider not doing this in the future. When someone is reporting a bug, we suppose that he/she has physical (or at least remote root) access to the machine and knows exactly what has happened. STOP, i dont report report bugs for other ppl. the problem i wrote about happend actualy to me. i have access physical/logical access to the computer in question. The only point was 'did he install from OS SUSE or from the pressed version'. He did install from pressed version. a simple default install. (he can do it. he is the boss.) Not finding sun java happend to me, i mentioned mysql-devel because i had the odd feeling that this happend to me before (with mysql-devel). letting yast search for *devel* showed a LOT of devel packages but NOT mysql-devel. Afterwards i installed java via CLI from CD. i have NO idea what the problem is. but it clearly not related to WHO installed. case closed |
