Description Karl Eichwalder 2005-11-10 10:17:40 UTC
There are two usability issues with gaim (if used as a groupwise client).

1/ gaim does not seem to notice, if you call xlock on the command line. I'd say, to should set the status to "offline" if you call xlock. I'm not sure what should happen, if "typing break" or if the screensaver kicks in (setting status to "busy" might be appropriate).

2/ the conversation window sometimes fail to pop up. Try to reproduce it this way:
- Talk to someone.
- Talk so somebody else.
- Minimize the conversation window.
- Ask your first partner to start talking again. The conversation window stays minimized for me.

Feel free to move the report upstream if you think it might be appropriate.

1) xlock is not integrated with the desktop. But AFAIK galago project and gnome-screensaver plans to provide such information via D-BUS.

2) Yes, there is a lack of notification when window is already opened. I guess it's duplicate of bug 127964 comment 1.

I'm not so sure it should go offline, possibly it should make you idle though.
Comment 3 Karl Eichwalder 2005-11-11 06:35:43 UTC
"idle" would be okay as well. The problem is, "idle" is not listed as an option if you click the "Away" button ;) Do you mean "Appear Offline"?

Pidgin has resolved 2) and for 1) pidgin sets you as away if the screensaver is running so this is also resolved in a way.
