when shutting down, from gui, console or atx power button, system goes down but does not power-off. same problem in 9.3
Comment 1 Thomas Renninger 2005-11-14 10:22:39 UTC
Hmm, could you try latest kotd in:
ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mantel/kotd/10.0-i386/SL100_BRANCH/kernel-default.i586.rpm
Comment 2 Thomas Renninger 2005-11-14 10:24:26 UTC
Please also check, whether you have upgraded to the latest BIOS.
What are the latest messages in /var/log/messages ... best attach the whole /var/log/messages file zipped.

Comment 5 Thomas Renninger 2005-12-13 16:53:55 UTC
Too much bugs, can you help Pavel?
Comment 6 Pavel Machek 2005-12-19 21:52:27 UTC
Does it shutdown correctly when you disable SMP? ...when you go with minimal drivers? (init=/bin/bash)?
Comment 7 karl parsons 2006-01-11 15:10:34 UTC
using smp kernel, on shutdown system goes down but power stays on, subsequently pressing power button has no effect.
irq problems on boot with nosmp.
boots ok with nosmp noapic but will not poweroff again.
with acpi=off apm=off system goes down and can then poweroff with button.
Comment 8 Pavel Machek 2006-01-11 21:15:51 UTC
(1) Is there any kernel when powerdown worked?

(2) Can you boot with minimum drivers (init=/bin/bash) and try if it powersdown there?

(Thanks for nosmp/noapic tests. They are useful).
Comment 9 karl parsons 2006-04-25 11:56:43 UTC
sorry for the long delay on this.
still broken with minimum drivers.
power-off was ok for all suse versions from 8.0 to 9.2, broken from 9.3 onwards.
last test was with 10.1 beta 9 and still broken.
Comment 10 Pavel Machek 2006-04-25 20:21:47 UTC
Can you verify if it is still problem with latest vanilla kernel, and if so submit it to bugzilla.kernel.org? Intel acpi people are there and helpful.

Or you can binary-search versions and see where it broke... but difference between 9.2 and 9.3 is pretty big. (What happens if you run 9.2 kernel with config from 9.3? and vice versa?)
Comment 11 Pavel Machek 2006-10-13 13:36:18 UTC
Too long in needinfo.
