Even if I get the settings correct, The "test now" link during installation just turns off my display.  I saw this on three boxes -- all with ATI hardware.  After the install I'm able to get X configured and working with SaX2.

Bart, is this the same system as in bug #132983 ?

That is one of the systems, but I also saw it with two others. 
The mice worked during the installs of 2 of the three systems. 
All systems the had the problem are ATI.  On an NVidia box the
"test now"feature worked during install.

Did you activate the second output connector ? During installation
if done on a laptop the secondary vga is enabled by default. It may
happen that with activated framebuffer (installation X-Server) a
testserver might fail.
