Trying to install Alpha3 with the following command line:
install=ftp://192.168.1.100/inst/sl10.1a3 autoyast=ftp://192.168.1.100/auto/SL-10.1-GNOME.xml results in the following error:
"The module inst_autoinit does not work"

/var/log/YaST2/y2log shows the following;
[Interpreter] ProductControl.ycp:140 Can't find the YCP client component inst_autoinit: No such file or directory

the yast2-country code in ALpha3 is too old for the autoyast in alpha3. This is already fixed in the current code.
