Description Pavel Nemec 2005-11-21 12:43:17 UTC
I installed SL 10.1 on iBook. I had already installed MacOS X. I select default installation and let Yast to manage disk partitioning.
After for mating disk to ReiserFS Yast come up with strange error (in partitioning phase)
and continued with copying files, after reboot i realized that no bootloader was installed, and whole partition table was deleted.
I was able to see partitions with pdisk, but Yast or Mac OS was not able to see them.
I reinstall MacOS and try install SL again, but with same error. I stop here and try manual installation/rescue

i will attach pdisk and parted output.
Yast now see same partitioning as parted.

Please, attach also YaST logs.
Comment 3 Anna Maresova 2005-11-22 12:32:17 UTC
We are unable to access logs, they are on the destroyed root partition.
Comment 4 Arvin Schnell 2005-11-23 09:53:58 UTC
We have made some fixed concerning mac partition tables. But without
the YaST2 logs or at least the exact strange error it's not possible
to help at all.
Comment 5 Olaf Hering 2005-11-23 12:02:29 UTC
I heard that these corruption will not happen anymore, because yast will ignore everything it doesnt know about. Which is essentially everything except msdos label.
Comment 6 Arvin Schnell 2005-11-23 13:02:25 UTC
YaST also knows about mac and gpt. It doesn't know about amiga.
Comment 7 Thomas Fehr 2006-02-02 11:57:55 UTC
Should be fixed in SL 10.1 beta#4
Comment 8 Pavel Nemec 2006-02-24 12:15:11 UTC
I install beta3,4 now 5. And i think i find out something. There is no support for hfs in yast instalation and if you format something as hsf disk, or mount hfs disk, yast end with error.
I think that this behavior cause this bug.
Yast crash with beta 5 when mounting existing hsf disk. Error message was that hsf disk cannot be mounted.
Comment 9 Olaf Hering 2006-03-04 20:30:29 UTC
formating hfs works for me.
be more specific about what you are doing.
Comment 10 Pavel Nemec 2006-03-07 10:21:23 UTC
Whenever i choose format some partition as hsf in instalation. Yast try to do this and end with error message. After this instalation is aborted.
I was able to reproduce this behavior on beta 4 and 5. I did not test it on beta 6.
My original problem was, that i choose reformat existing hsf partition in order to install yaboot. Yast crash and startup partition was not formated properly.
Comment 11 Olaf Hering 2006-03-07 12:28:25 UTC
do you have the yast2 logs for that install? Please attach them.
Comment 12 Thomas Fehr 2006-03-15 15:41:37 UTC
Need y2log files
Comment 13 Pavel Nemec 2006-03-20 13:59:39 UTC
Finally.
I tested beta8. Instalation crash when formating existing swap. HSF format works fine.
I am attaching yast logs

Comment 16 Thomas Fehr 2006-03-20 14:11:48 UTC
Parted was unable to set raid partition type to "off" on mac disklabel, I
skipped setting of this type on mac disklabel. Please retry with RC1.
Comment 17 Pavel Nemec 2006-04-03 11:20:57 UTC
I test it with beta 9 and it work fine.
