Description Michael Stather 2005-11-22 15:48:47 UTC
By default samba uses "Samba 3.0.20b-3.1-SUSE" as a "server derscription".
Windows clients (which is IMHO the main reason for using samba) display that in brackets after the NetBIOS name, which is not consistent to other windows clients which don´t set that attribute (usually). Those SuSE computers just look strange when seen in the "network neighborhodd". So I suggest that this is off by default and can be switched on within YaST2.

Any news on this one?
Comment 2 Lars Müller 2006-03-15 12:57:39 UTC
You like to have it like this:

Name Comments
hostname (Samba 3.0.21c-8-SUSE-CODE10) Samba 3.0.21c-8-SUSE-CODE10

Right?
Comment 3 Michael Stather 2006-03-15 18:20:13 UTC
Yes, the samba version is appended to the computer name in windows.
It should be in a comment but not in the name.
The unix boy should look like a windows one in the network neighborhood IMHO.

No activity for years.
Please reopen if this is still a problem on a supported version of openSUSE
(10.3 or later)
