Description Stefan Hundhammer 2005-11-28 14:14:03 UTC
The stock 10.0 amarok is very unstable: It plays music on average no longer than about 10-20 minutes, then it crashes (segfault) or the UI freezes.

Building my own RPM with a newer version amarok-1.3.5 fixed the problem for me.

dmueller@suse.de is convinced the problem is due to threads in the 10.0 amarok code and a multiprocessor machine (I have a P4 with hyperthreading) - a known amarok problem. He thinks it works for me only because in the spec file I had used amarok is built without thread support.

Anyway, since a lot of users out there are using P4-HT systems I strongly suggest to ship an updated version (with thread support disabled) as a YOU update. Amarok as it comes with 10.0 is pretty unusable for P4-HT users.

I can confirm this.

When I started amarok the third time (or so) after installation, it crashes with this error message (during startup)
kio (Scheduler): FATAL: BUG! _ScheduleJob(): No extraJobData for job!

After I installed above mentioned version, it runs now without any problems.

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115900 says it's fixed in 1.3.6 - I think we should do a YOU update even if it's a newer version it seems way less buggy.

Dirk, please see what of the other amarok bugs you can fix with that.

Dirk, what is the status here?
Comment 6 Dirk Mueller 2006-01-31 13:07:10 UTC
still working on fixing the x86_64 / helix wrapper issue, which we want to ship with this update.
Comment 7 Dirk Mueller 2006-02-09 17:11:31 UTC
ok, mostly sorted out, only one strange memleak to go.

The problem seems to be back with amarok-1.3.8 from 10.1-i386. Gathering more information.

This must be a different cause, please use bug 176366 for reporting.
