Description S. Handgraaf 2005-12-03 05:09:32 UTC
The Novell Linux Desktop greeter shows the users "SuSE Linux 9.2" when they want to login. Very old, strange and by most confusing in distribution v10.0 or up.

I'm a little unclear - you mention Novell Linux Desktop but you reported this bug against SuSE Linux 10.0.

Did you recently upgrade from SuSE Linux 9.2 to SuSE Linux 10.0?
Comment 2 S. Handgraaf 2005-12-04 17:03:22 UTC
This is on a clean installed OpenSuSE 10.0 final version.
The greeter theme for gui login is called "Novell Linux Desktop".
On the Gnome SuSE menu this can be set by Applications -> system -> configuration -> login screen setup. Under tab 'themed greeter'.
Comment 3 JP Rosevear 2005-12-07 13:25:03 UTC
So it did "Novell Linux Desktop" on its own for the GDM theme? it wasn't something you set?
Comment 4 S. Handgraaf 2005-12-07 15:06:11 UTC
The problem is what it shows the user when the theme runs.

The content of the theme is like the default gnome greeter theme of SuSE Linux pro 9.x. It shows in text "SuSE Linux 9.2", but this is OpenSuSE 10.0.

I guess somebody forgot to update the themes version number in the image it shows before packing this theme with OpenSuSE 10.0.

Maybe it is better to restyle the theme just showing the text "OpenSuSE", not a version number at all.

I'm seeing something odd with the "industrial" (NLD) theme in SUSE Linux 10.0. I'll attach a screenshot. It looks *nothing* like the NLD gdm theme.

To reproduce: on SUSE Linux 10.0, run "/opt/gnome/bin/gdmthemetester console /opt/gnome/share/gdm/themes/industrial"

Comment 7 Mark Gordon 2005-12-07 17:26:05 UTC
excerpt from the gnome-themes rpm changelog:

* Thu Sep 02 2004 - hhetter@suse.de

- "SUSE Linux 9.2" in the title box of Industrial GDM Theme

My guess is that this got updated for 9.2 and simply wasn't updated subsequently, nor was the preview ever updated from the original NLD theme.

This isn't the default theme on 10.0, and gdmsetup (which shows the preview and allows the theme to be changed) isn't readily discoverable with the default gdm theme on 10.0 (which lacks a setup option), hence the low visibility of this problem.

Mostly I think we'll need to make sure this gdm theme gets updated (or removed) for 10.1.
Comment 8 Holger Hetterich 2005-12-07 18:06:07 UTC
Somewhere in between 9.2/9.3 I stopped doing GNOME packages completely, and thought those who overtook the themeing of GNOME will remove or change/update the theme.

Gordon, please remove it, I don't have any time to maintain it anymore.

Moving to rodney to cleanup with the rest of the theming issues.
Comment 10 Rodney Dawes 2006-03-02 16:35:08 UTC
I've removed the branding in the Industrial theme now and submitted to autobuild.
