After I installed Suse 10.1 alpha 4 on my desktop, I got an error message that said:

"Could not start kstartupconfig. Check your installation"

and it would not let me load KDE, but it took me back to the login screen.

When I tried a different window manager, everything worked fine.

you read the release notes for the alpha, right?
