Description Bela Mike 2005-12-19 13:46:45 UTC
The YaST Online Update (YOU) offers me the possibility to keep the downloaded rpms on hard disk.

But this useful feature is missing from YaST if I give online sources for the INSTALLATION (which is not the same with the UPDATE). Yast deletes every downloaded rpm in the relevant subdirectory of /var (except the last installed package) and doesn'nt offers me the possibility to keep the downloaded rpms.

For this reason I'm forced to download again and again a lot of packages at every installation. (Many packages are not included with the installation mediums.) So the only solution is to use apt-rpm/Synaptic with enabled apt-cache. But the number of SuSE apt-mirrors is too little.

So it would be very useful this feature when we make YaST installation from online sources.

This would be indeed useful and should be rather simple to implement.
Comment 2 Kalman Kemenczy 2006-02-10 15:47:21 UTC
On which version we could see this feature?

Raising severity as this is a problem (see bug #157011) that could break the installation on smaller systems.
Comment 5 Michael Gross 2006-03-13 14:24:08 UTC
As discussed in #157011, it should be made an option for the user to keep downloaded packages and if this option is not used, packages should either be deleted at once after the installation (of each package) or it should be integrated in the `free diskspace'-calculation with a warning that one might run out of space during the installation.
Comment 6 Reinhard Max 2006-03-13 14:50:36 UTC
To comment #4: "smaller systems" is wrong, the system on which it happened to me is quite big, "systems with few space left on the root FS" would have been more appropriate.

To comment #5: I've reopened bug #157011, because it needs to be fixed for CODE10, whereas this feature request is very unlikely to make it into CODE10 at this point in the development cycle.
Comment 8 Jiří Suchomel 2006-07-18 06:20:33 UTC
AFAIK there's no API in current zypp...
