Description Holger Köhlerschmidt 2005-12-25 10:16:53 UTC
The shutdown process of the laptop hangs after swichting off the display. To switch the laptop off, i must press the on/off-button for some seconds. After this procedure, the laptop is able to start again.
Also the suspend to disk/ram funtionality does not work correctly and hangs with en error. I guess that it must have something to do with the ATI acpi. I also tried the KOTD kernels, but also with no success. Does any one has a solution for that problem? It concerns not only FSC laptops, also Toschiba laptops have simular problems.

greetings,
Holger

Did some research about the bug during the last days.
1) New DSDT Table => was as buggy from the compiler detected, i corrected the table, but no success
2) Boot from grup with init=/bin/bash, tried "halt", "poweroff", "shutdown -h now" also with no success; the system hangs after unmount the harddisk; I tried the same on a FSC Lifbook with a centrino chipset and on that system the last readable output on the display was something with ACPI. This message is missing on the Amilo Laptop with Turion Chipset
3) Tried the KOTD (2.6.15rc..) also with no success. => The timer runs in that case the twice time
4) compiled a 2.6.14 Kernel with the configuration from 2.6.13-15.7. Also with no success.
5) Run Knoppix 4.02 CD. The system shuts down with poweroff. The difference is that Knoppix is i686 based and not x86_64.

Now i have no more idea. Hope, that somebody has a solution in near future

Holger

I did solve the problem by accident. The problem is the entry "gfxmenu" in menu.lst from grub. After deleting this entry, the laptop switch correctly off.
There are some related bugs - with shutdown prolems- in the list. Maybe this is the solution for all. Could you please inform the other guys and maybe path grub?

regards,
Holger

Strange. Can you please attach your menu.lst file?
