Description John Ireland 2006-01-02 20:02:45 UTC
The wireless definition files are missing in 10.1 Alpha 4. The computer is a Toshiba satellite 522 with an inbuilt Atheros wireless card. Had to downgrade to version 10 to send this report.

With "definitions", you mean drivers, firmware?
Comment 2 Ladislav Slezák 2006-01-03 09:02:26 UTC
Or hwconfig/ifconfig files?
Comment 3 John Ireland 2006-01-13 10:27:26 UTC
Ans: Drivers and firmware files. With V10 the system automatically scanned the computer listing all installed cards. This is not happening with v10.1 Alpha 4. i.e. it does not recognise the installed in-built Atheros wireless card. Consequently the driver files are not configured. Yast2 is not finding the card if a post install scan is performed.

The driver for Atheros cards contains binary-only code and is therefore not included in openSUSE. You need to download and install the kernel-default-nongpl (or maybe kernel-smp-nongpl) package from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/10.1/... to get your card running.
